Bathroom Design Tips: How to Revamp Your Bathroom on a Budget

Have you ever dreamed of walking into your personal bathroom and finding a room that belongs in a hotel? Have you always wanted a bathroom oasis but have had to settle for a water closet? Have you dreamed of a bathroom design that’s both elegant and comfortable?

We understand.

While the bathroom might be the smallest room in the house, that doesn’t mean it’s not one of the most important. A gorgeous bathroom can make every part of your day better. Unfortunately, when most of us think of revamping our baths all we see are dollar signs flashing, but that doesn’t have to be the case.

Updating your bathroom design doesn’t have to break the bank. In fact, you can have a completely revamped bathroom look on a budget…IF you know what you’re doing. The good news is that we know what we’re doing and we’re going to share our favorite tips and tricks with you.

Bathroom Design Tip #1: Paint

It’s astounding the difference that a fresh coat of paint on the walls can make. And the best part is that since bathrooms are typically small, a fresh paint job should only take a few hours. There are many paint schemes you can go with, but we do have a few recommendations.

  • Keep it light. Bathrooms are small and dark colors can close in a space and make it feel even more cramped.
  • Add a pop of color. Don’t be afraid to add color to your bathroom. Most often bathroom fixtures are white or light-colored, and a splash of brilliant color can really make your bathroom stand out.
  • Choose water-resistant paint. A bathroom and matte paint don’t go together. Make sure you choose a water-resistant paint that is made for the bathroom. And remember, the higher the quality the better it will stand up and the more likely it will be cleanable.

And don’t forget that you don’t have to stop painting once your walls are done. If you have old wood cabinets that look rickety and outdated, give them a fresh coat of complementary paint and viola—brand new bathroom cabinets!

Bathroom Design Tip #2: Coordinate Accents

One thing that most designer bathrooms have in common is matching accessories. A bath might be small, but that means it’s all the more important to have a set color scheme or look that draws the eye around the room. The good news is that VCNY makes it easy to create a gorgeous matching bathroom on a budget.

For example, let’s say you’re looking to add a pop of pink to your bathroom, which you painted a light gray. Our Cubish Clairebella print offers you the options to buy matching towels, shower curtain, bath rugs, and more.

Bathroom Design Tip #3: Update the Hardware

With new paint and new accents, the next step in your budget bathroom remodel is new hardware!

Let’s get real for a second.

Old bathrooms have terrible knobs, pulls, toilet paper holders, and lighting. Typically they’re cheap looking and obviously dated. Well, with just a few dollars and a trip to the home store, you can fix that.

Choose complimentary cabinet hardware that works well with your new paint color and the new look you want in your bathroom. Consider choosing hardware that’s a little outside the box. For example, instead of a knob, choose a geometric handle in brushed steel. And don’t be afraid to match your hardware. If brushed steel is your look, choose that look for your knobs, towel racks, faucets, and lighting fixtures.

And when it comes to your lighting fixture, make sure it really lights up the room. You don’t need something that blinds you whenever you walk into the bath, but choose a light that offers both style and quality lighting.

Bathroom Design Tip #4: Upgrade Your Mirror

The mirror is one of the most used elements in your bath, but it’s often one of the most overlooked as well.

However, an updated mirror can really add a pop of style and make a difference. Replace your basic mirror with an affordable and stylish mirror that fits the space and your look. We especially love round or unique-shaped mirrors with frames. These mirrors bring fashion into your bath in a simple yet dramatic way.

Bathroom Design Tip #5: Keep Your Accessories Organized

Finally, a stylish bathroom is a clean bathroom.

You don’t need your stuff covering every surface and cluttering up the small space. Instead, make sure you put all your hair products, makeup, and other bath accessories away.

One way to do this is by buying a bath set that includes a toothbrush holder, soap dispenser, cup, and more all in a matching style. This is a small detail that can have a big impact. A great place to start is with our Damask Asher 16-Piece Bath Set that only costs the same as a Starbucks run for two.
